What is GPS ? |
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) developed by the United States Department of Defense. It is the only fully functional GNSS in the world. It uses a constellation of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals. Its official name is NAVSTAR-GPS.
GPS permits land, sea, and airborne users to determine their position, velocity and time, 24 hours a day, in all weather, anywhere in the world. The GPS signals are available to an unlimited number of users simultaneously.
Each GPS satellite transmits signals to equipment on the ground. GPS receivers passively receive satellite signals; they do not transmit. GPS receivers require an unobstructed view of the sky, so forested areas or locations near tall buildings may reduce performance. |

How do the systems send information? |
Most Vehicle Tracking Systems send the information they gather via cellular/GSM/GPRS networks like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Systems intended for international use also include a satellite transmitter to send information from remote regions or areas without cellular coverage (i.e. at sea). |

Does Suncoast offer installation? |
Yes, Suncoast Vehicle Tracking provides installation for all of the systems that we offer. |

What parts make up a Vehicle Tracking System? |
A basic system consists of three main parts: a GPS antenna, a Cellular/GSM/GPRS antenna, and a "black box" that houses the processor and transmitter.
Some systems also include a display for the driver. This display is used for navigation and communication with the dispatch office. |

How do I see where my vehicles are? |
Most Vehicle Tracking are web based. This means that all you need is a standard internet browser to manage your complete fleet. You can log into your user account from anywhere that has internet access. |
Can one of these systems help me communicate with my drivers? |
| |
Yes, you can send dispatch orders directly to drivers using a vehicle tracking system. Currently both Beacon Wireless and Trimble Navigation offer this feature. |
